Britten-inspired 15th anniversary season

We're delighted to announce a Benjamin Britten-inspired 15th anniversary season!

Our inaugural production in 2002 was Britten’s Canticles at Westminster Abbey. We have now selected five new Composers in Residence to create original responses to these canticles to be performed at our Opera Hours across England in spring 2017.

Selected from more than 100 applicants, the five Composers in Residence are: Anna Appleby, Litha Efthymiou, Bushra El-Turk, Ella Jarman-Pinto and Alex Patterson. Supported by PRS for Music Foundation, each composer is collaborating with Streetwise Opera’s performers in one of our five regions to create a new 3-5 minute chorus. Click here to find out more about the Composers in Residence

In spring 2018, we will also present a world premiere in co-production with Sage Gateshead and Royal Northern Sinfonia. The new opera will feature Britten’s Cabaret Songs, with words by W.H. Auden, alongside other repertoire. It will be performed in Sage Gateshead’s Sage Two by our Newcastle and Gateshead performers (pictured) and Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Dates, further information and booking details for all performances will be available on our 'what's on' page as soon as they are confirmed, or be the first to know by signing up to our newsletter.
