A Ceremony of Carols

By Benjamin Britten
World Premiere staging at New College, Oxford

Participants from Streetwise Opera workshops in five Oxford homeless centres performed alongside New College Choir, Oxford in a new staging of Britten’s Ceremony of Carols. The project involved turning the tables on the haves and have-nots in a city whose poverty is often hidden by high art and affluence and put homeless performers centre-stage in a professional opera.

'Brilliantly imagined, strikingly original and deeply touching... fantastically impressive'

Opera Now

'Critics have wept and raved. It shows us that the homeless are people like us'

Time Out

'There is abundant testimony to the wonders Streetwise Opera has worked'

Evening Standard

'Delightful… hilarious… admirable and inspiring enterprise'
