Meet Bushra El-Turk, Streetwise Opera Composer in Residence for Middlesbrough (2016-17). Bushra is working with Streetwise Opera’s performers to create a new 3-5 minute chorus inspired by Britten's canticle, ‘Abraham and Isaac’. Her new composition will be performed at a Middlsbrough Opera Hour in spring 2017.

Streetwise Opera's Nottingham Explore Group rehearses a new opera chorus composed by our Nottingham Composer in Residence, Alex Patterson. 

The new composition is inspired by Benjamin Britten’s Canticles, which was Streetwise Opera’s inaugural production in 2002. Alex is one of five Streetwise Opera Composers in Residence who are composing a chorus inspired by Britten’s work with lyrics by our performers.

The world premiere of the new chorus will be at the Nottingham Playhouse on 2 March 2017.

Streetwise Opera introduces Bizet's opera, The Pearl Fishers. This video features interviews with Streetwise Opera's performers Sarah and Lily and footage from workshops at The Passage and Southbank Centre.

Ella is working with Streetwise Opera’s performers to create a new 3-5 minute chorus inspired by Britten's canticle, ‘Journey of the Magi’. Her new composition will be performed at a Newcastle/Gateshead Opera Hour in spring 2017.
