Arts organisations partner with us regularly through our opera productions and the regular workshop programme. The partnerships are vital to our work and range from joint projects with education departments to arts organisations offering free tickets or hosting work placements for our performers. Increasingly we are making long-term links with arts organisations across all our work so together we can benefit more homeless people in the regions in which we work.
Opera North
We are very excited to be delivering our new workshop programme in Manchester at the Booth Centre in artistic partnership with Opera North. The company has helped us recruit workshop leaders and the artistic content of our work at the Booth Centre is all related to the Opera North’s season. This means that our performers are working on ideas and music that have emerged from Opera North’s season of operas – they will perform devised work based on this material and attend the Opera North season as audience members. We are also planning work placements and performance opportunities with Opera North.
Our second partnership with a large arts organisation was forged in September 2010 when The Streetwise Choir moved from Crisis Skylight in Newcastle (its home for 4 years and where it started) to The Sage Gateshead. We are sad to leave Crisis but the opportunity to partner with the biggest music centre in the North East is tremendous and will offer so many opportunities to our Choir members in terms of performances, tickets and work placements. We’ve organised a mini bus to pick up members from all over the region to bring them to rehearsals on a Tuesday and there is a food token for members who get together at the end of each session at The Sage Gateshead’s cafe!
