Get fit in 2012 and support Streetwise Opera
Streetwise Opera has places in two fantastic sporting events this year: Nightrider, a 100k night-time cycle through London on 9 June and the British 10k, a 10k run through the heart of central London on 8 July. These are both great challenges and brilliant opportunties to raise vital funds for Streetwise by getting sponsored. We ask that you commit to raising a minimum of £250 in sponsorship, and once you’ve got your place you can set up a fundraising page on our BT Mydonate page. Streetwise Opera will support you with training and fundraising tips, as well as cheering you on on the day! If you’re interested in a place, please email br@streetwiseopera.orgA brilliant Quiz Night 2011!
Many thanks to everyone who came and supported us at our Quiz Night at St Columba’s Hall on 22 June 2011 – it was a fantastic night with fabulous food, wine, and brilliant questions from Sam West and Jonathan Gaisman. Think our favourite round was ‘cheese or font’! Lots of money was raised which will all go towards our work with those who have experienced homelessness. Thanks also to those who donated prizes for the wonderful auction, and to Lee Young of Lyon & Turnbull for his star turn as auctioneer!I Sang on a West End Stage! March 2010
Thanks to everyone who made our Carmen event so brilliant! On Sunday 21 March 2010 we ran a unique event to give members of the public the chance to
sing a reduced version of Bizet’s Carmen on a West End stage. World-famous opera director Keith Warner generously gave his time to direct the opera and the Ambassadors Theatre Group donated the Fortune Theatre for the day.
Fifty supporters were taken through their paces to rehearse excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen and then perform them in the evening to the public alongside some top professional soloists and our very own Streetwise Opera performers.
Huge thanks to everyone involved from the participants to Streetwise Opera staff, the soloists, crew, sponsored singers and the Ambassadors Theatre Group.
The evening raised over £20,000 for the charity.
Quiz Night, January 21st 2009
Back by popular demand, we ran a second Quiz Night with IMS Prussia Cove at St Columba’s Church Hall in London. Hosted once again by Sam West, prizes including a trip to the Lucerne Festival and a ‘flight’ in a private capsule on the London Eye with champagne included.
Great North Run, October 2008 Many thanks and congratulations to David and Emily, two of our North East workshop leaders who ran the Great North Run in aid of Streetwise Opera.
London Marathon, 13 April 2008 From Andrew Missingham Hi everyone, What a fantastic day we had on Sunday. I finished the marathon in a time of 3 hours 52 minutes (and that included the stop to sing Nessun Dorma). The sight of the Streetwise banner ahead of me as I arrived at Poplar High Street after 20 long miles was great, and the throng of Streetwise members, supporters and staff to sing along with me (or cover up my pretty ropey singing!) buoyed me up for my final six miles. Ever resourceful, Streetwise’s Michelle even managed to get the local fire brigade involved, as we used their P.A. system and microphone to amplify our presence to the crowds watching on the street. Thanks so much to Andrew who raised a massive £5,000 for Streetwise Opera.
Quiz Night, July 12th 2006 We organised our first evening of entertainment, festivity and gentle brain-teasing to raise funds jointly for Streetwise Opera and the International Musicians Seminar, Prussia Cove on 12th July 2006 at St Columba’s Hall hosted by Samuel West Charity Gala Dinner at Banqueting House, March 3rd 2005 Thank you to all who helped to make our Gala Fundraising Dinner at Banqueting House such a success; the evening raised £25,000 for the charity. Particular thanks to compere Rt Hon Chris Smith MP, Fiona Dalrymple (Delectable Feasts), Helena Newman (Sotheby’s), Lin Kennedy (Banqueting House), our guest performers for the evening James Bowman, Frances McCafferty, Lillian Watson, joined workshops leaders and the Streetwise Chorus. Thank you also to all those who donated items for the glittering auction, table hosts, our board of trustees, the fundraising sub-committee and our volunteers.
Rt Hon Chris Smith MP and Matt Peacock
Burns Supper
Between 2002-05, Streetwise Opera was the recipient of profits raised from an annual Burns Supper hosted by Messrs Peter Grant and Robert Fleming at the Kensington Hilton. We are very grateful to them and to BP who matches the amount raised.
The Streetwise Ceilidh In 2002 and 2003, we held two ceilidh dances in aid of Streetwise Opera, hosted at Bush Hall in Shepherd’s Bush and featuring the excellent ‘Whole Caboodle’.
The National Three Peaks Challenge, 2003 Over the weekend of 21st June 2003, a large group of friends and friends of friends tackled the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for the charity.
The Challenge consists of climbing the three highest mountains in Britain in 24 hours! The mighty Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales. Thank you to everyone involved who helped us raise over £11,000. Thanks also to our Challenge sponsors, Kevin Mayhew Publishers, Rupert Lines and Easily.co.uk
