Streetwise Opera runs a regular training programme for its pool of 30 regular workshop leaders. Each leader goes through a three-stage training process before running workshops themselves. Then every year all leaders have a training session in their region and they all take part in a National Training Day, usually in the spring. We also bring in specialists to help leaders build skills in areas such as conflict management.
External Training
Streetwise Opera has been one of the main trainers for artists and homeless staff working with participatory arts and vulnerable people.
Our National Training Day brings together all our workshop leaders annually and since 2009 is now also open to external artists. Over the last two years we have worked with artists from ENO, ROH, WNO, Opera North, Scottish Opera and Glyndebourne. If you are interested in attending one of these events, please get in touch with Nicholas Bartlett (contact details below).
Our next National Training Day will be on 14 March 2012 at the Southbank Centre. Please see the information sheet and booking form below:

Streetwise Opera is also part of ArtWorks Wales, a new initiative which supports the professional
development of artists working in participatory settings. Click here for more information.
From 2012-15 we will be working with Homeless Link to support and train homeless workers from around the country w
ho are starting or formalising arts projects. The scheme Get Creative: Arts For Allis the first national arts and homeless training programme. Streetwise Opera will be running practical and project management workshops during the programme.
Alongside these training projects, we run In-House Training for a variety of organisations both in the arts and homeless fields. This training focuses on our model of using music to support vulnerable adults so we may run training for artists preparing for a project in another arts organisation or for homeless workers hoping to establish an arts programme in a centre. Projects have included:
Aldeburgh Music (Training for Education)
British Council Artist Training Day in Sydney
British Council Artist Training Day in Yokohama
Choir of Hope and Inspiration, Melbourne
Dragon Arts, Swansea
Edinburgh University
Musubi, Osaka
Only Men Aloud
Scottish Opera
The Sage Gateshead
