Linthorpe Road Methodist Church, 54 Borough Road TS1 2JH
Only open to MAP or DePaul clients

Run by Streetwise Opera in partnership with Middlesbrough Asylum Project (MAP) and Depaul UK. MAP is a charity which offers practical support and social opportunities to those seeking asylum in Middlesbrough. Depaul UK works in communities where poverty and long-term unemployment have resulted in generations of social exclusion and homelessness. Its Positive Pathways out of Homelessness project provides practical support and helps vulnerable people build their emotional resilience.

Fridays, 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Albert Rd, Middlesbrough TS1 2QJ
Singing and acting workshops, open to people who are or have been homeless

Have fun singing and getting to know a different opera each term in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Sessions focus on performance skills as well as opportunities to volunteer and get work experience. New people can join at any time.

If you would like to attend either workshop, please contact our Teesside Programme Producer, Ree Collins, on rc@streetwiseopera.org or 07765 766257.

Meet the performer

'I've been coming to Streetwise for four years and my favourite opera we’ve worked on is Madame Butterfly.

'I come to the workshops to meet new people and build up my confidence. I'd describe Streetwise as exciting, enjoyable and sometimes a bit exasperating!

'If I could be any character from an opera I'd be Figaro - he knows how to have fun.

'If you're thinking about coming to the group I'd say just give it a go and see how you feel.'
