We are delighted to announce that Hannah Conway, an internationally-recognised British composer who has worked with some of the world’s leading opera houses and orchestras, has been appointed Artistic Director of Streetwise Opera.
Much of Hannah’s work as a composer, presenter and music director has focused on creating opportunities for those with limited access to the arts, demonstrating that music that can be used to bring communities together.
Hannah has composed operas in 12 different languages and been commissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra, Glyndebourne, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and Royal Opera House. Her current work includes Dare to Dream, for a thousand performers at the Royal Albert Hall and Tale of Two Dragons, recorded and performed by the BBC Singers.
The world premiere of her 2017 piece, Towards Another World, commissioned by ENO Baylis, involved performers from Streetwise Opera’s workshops in London as part of a large chorus at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Hannah will join Streetwise Opera in April, when its founder and Artistic Director, Matt Peacock, leaves the company to lead With One Voice, the international arts and homelessness movement that was founded by Streetwise Opera in 2016.

Recognised for her work with some of the world’s leading opera houses and orchestras, Hannah has led projects in eighteen countries as a composer, presenter and music director. At the heart of her work as composer, is intense collaboration and musical input from communities; Towards Another World(ENO/V&A museum 2017), A Young Known Voice (Academy of Ancient Music/Barbican 2017), The Freedom Game (2015, Albert Hall), and Beautiful World(2016, Abu Dhabi). She has composed operas in 12 different languages and been commissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra, Glyndebourne, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and Royal Opera House.
International collaborations include the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Opéra de Dijon, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Luxembourg Philharmonie, LʼOrchéstre de Paris, Muziekcentrum Van De Omroep and opera residencies for the Royal Danish and Swedish Opera, Het Muziek Theater and Songbound (Mumbai, India). She has adjudicated BBC Young Musician, moderated for the EU commission and presented for BBC Radio 3.
Current work includes Dare to Dream, for a thousand performers (Royal Albert Hall, March 2019) and Tale of Two Dragons, recorded and performed by the BBC Singers (February 2019).
