Streetwise Sessions aim to inspire and energise people affected by homelessness through online singing

Today we are announcing Streetwise Sessions, a series of live-streamed singing and creative workshops that aim to inspire and energise people affected by homelessness. These sessions, designed to keep Streetwise participants engaged until we are ready to return to our regular workshops, are streamed on Facebook Live.

We will host half-hour sessions from Monday to Friday at 12:00 noon. If you are a Streetwise participant, you can take part via our Facebook group We Are Streetwise Opera, while members of the public can watch the workshops on our YouTube channel.

Streetwise Sessions are conducted by lead artists from our singing and creative workshops in London, Manchester, Newcastle Gateshead, Nottingham and Teesside. We are working with our partners in the homelessness sector to ensure that service users who do not have regular access to the internet can still benefit from our work.

The initial phase of the project will run for three weeks, until Friday 17 April. Watch below our pilot session, with lead artist Rob Gildon from our Southbank Centre workshops, which went live on Thursday 26 March.

Streetwise Opera is an award-winning opera company and arts charity for people affected by homelessness. We run free weekly singing and creative workshops across England and stage critically-acclaimed operas.

Our work improves wellbeing and increases social inclusion. Our productions platform the skills of our performers in a professional arena, showing that whatever life throws at them, they can achieve great things. Underpinning these, our workshop programme offers a dependable source of creative activity in lives where everything else can be changing.
